Utilization of by-products and waste from olive oil production for the production of innovative biofunctional animal feeds and quality animal products – OliveFeed

The project aims to design and produce innovative animal feed from olive mill by-products/waste using advanced extraction and isolation technologies.

The need for high-quality animal feed is significant, as the market is often flooded with imported feed of questionable quality, which in many cases incurs substantial costs for the national economy. At the same time, the quality of animal feed is directly linked to the health and productivity of livestock, as well as the cost of animal-derived products. Thus, incorporating plant extracts rich in antioxidant components into feed could improve the health and productivity of farm animals.

The project is a collaboration between three private entities (AVMAP, BIOZOKAT, and the Union of Agricultural Cooperatives of Lakonia) and four research institutions (National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and University of Thessaly), all with expertise in olive processing, animal feed, and the marketing of such products.

AVMap, apart from its role as the coordinating body with extensive project management experience, is responsible for creating and deploying an open-source information system with server-side applications, a web-based application/website, and a mobile application for Android and iOS devices. These tools will facilitate the transfer and presentation of data on the web application. Additionally, AVMap is in charge of the feasibility analysis for the production and commercial distribution of the final products.
